Upcoming Events at the Senior Center of Rainier

 Dear Seniors & Friends,

BINGO Monday!  Come join us for the fun and pick your own prizes!  Reusable BINGO Cards are 3 for $1.00.  Use them over and over during BINGO.

Later on, Mary Gumbo will be at the Senior Center to talk to us about healthcare at 1:00 PM.  She will arrive early, if anyone has healthcare questions they'd like to discuss with her privately.

Wednesday at 1:30 PM is the We Love Rainier WA meeting in the Senior Center dining room.  Please bring your thoughts and ideas for things you'd like to see happen in Rainier!

Next week, (Fourth Monday) will be our monthly Board Meeting.  It will be held in the dining room starting at 1:00 PM.

This coming Wednesday we'll have a "We Love Rainier WA" meeting at the Senior Center.

Coffee with a Cop will be the following Wednesday at 1:00 PM in the Senior Center.

A lot is happening at the Senior Center.  The Fire Inspector (Mark), Tom Arnbrister, Mike Oravits, George and I met yesterday at the Senior Center to go over any changes, updates we need to make as an Emergency Shelter.  Per the recommendations, Tom is making arrangements to have our older fire extinguishers recharged.  (We have 2 new extinguishers, purchased at Costco last month)

Mark recommends a few updated to the Senior Center.  Smoke & CO2 detectors, recharge fire extinguishers and new Exit signs with battery back up emergency lights.  The Smoke and CO2 detectors and emergency exit signs have been ordered.  We will make arrangements to have the Exit signs installed.

George and I are retiring from Public Service as of May 31, 2022.  Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you all over these last few years.  We have a great volunteer staff who'll be taking over the Senior Center.  We'll still be in for lunch and visit with everyone!  The people at the Senior Center of Rainier will always hold a special place in our hearts!  Thank you again!

Astronaut Ice Cream Monday!

Monday we will serve bites of "Astronaut Ice Cream" when we open for BINGO!

They will be vanilla ice cream with vanilla cookie dough on the outside.  If you've never tried Astronaut Ice Cream, please feel free to join us for some.  One of our members made this in their freeze dryer.  It's interesting to eat ice cream that's dry and at room temperature.  It's crunchy, too.  If you leave it in your mouth, it will rehydrate and melt.  So it really "melts in your mouth and not in your hands".

Free Cancer Screening Monday, May 21st

We are having a free cancer screening Monday, May 21st, at the Senior Center of Rainier. This is a simple process to check for the cancer gene. They use a cotton swab on the inside of a person's cheek to test their DNA.
We will be open early for BINGO Monday, so come join us for the fun and free testing.
Now that the inside of our building has been painted, we'll be able to have special speakers and presentations again!

BINGO Tomorrow!!!

Correction:  BINGO will be held tomorrow, as it's the third Monday of the month.  I realize there are 2 holidays in January.  If people want, we can hold another BINGO next Monday because of the confusion.

August 2017 Lunch Menu

Hi!  Happy Summer...  The sunshine has been beautiful!

Below is a copy of the Rainier Senior Center lunch menu for August 2017.

Remember we have 50 pair of eclipse glasses so we can safely watch the eclipse on August 21st during BINGO.  These will be given out on a "first come, first serve" basis.

We're also having our clothing drive for the Olympia Union Gospel Mission on that day.  Remember to bring in gently used clothing, shoes and coats you no longer want or need.

We'll need volunteers to man the booth during the Bluegrass Festival August 25th & 26th.  If you have any nice items you'd like to donate
to the raffle, contact Rosemary.

Thank you,

Linda & George Johnson

USPS Food Drive 2017

Monday, the Rainier Senior Center received a call from the local Post Office asking George (who regularly picks up and delivers food to the food bank) to pick up the food donated by local citizens.  Although we were all just getting ready to play BINGO, he ran to the Post Office and picked up the food.  Since it was raining, we all pitched in and quickly unloaded the truck and took the food inside.  Even with all the helping hands, we were still late starting BINGO.

George had to move something else out of the Senior Center Monday and was working at the Tumwater Farmers Market on Wednesday.  The people at the Senior Center took the food to the Food Bank Wednesday after lunch.  WOW!

A very special "THANK YOU" goes out to everyone who donated food to the USPS Food Drive! The food collection was shared with many hungry people in Rainier.  Many people benefited from your generous donations.
