Rainier Round-up Days Bake Sale & Raffle
Our homemade baked goods were a HIT this year! We sold out of many of the wonderful items people made for our yearly Bluegrass Bake Sale! We sold out of the Strawberry Shortcake, Peach and Mixed Berry Cobblers. We had to cut pies and sell pieces by the slice because so many people came back for dessert! All in all our booth was a success this year! Thank you all for your hard work and commitment to our Senior Center!

Don't Mess with Old Folk
Alice, one of our members at the Rainier Senior Center, brought in this funny article and shared it with some of us yesterday. She sent it to me, so I could post it on our blog to share with anyone who missed it yesterday. I laughed so hard I cried. Thank you, Alice!
Yesterday
my daughter e-mailed me again,
asking
why I didn't do something useful with my
time.
“Like, me
sitting around the pool and
drinking
wine is not a good thing?” I
asked.
My
"doing-something-useful" seems to be her
favorite topic of
conversation.
She was
"only thinking of me", she said and
suggested
that I go down to the Senior Center and join
something.
I did
this and when I got home last night, I
decided to play a prank on
her.
I
e-mailed her and told her that I had
joined a Parachute Club.
She
replied, "Mother, are you nuts? You are
78 years
old and now you're going to start jumping out of
airplanes?”
I told
her that I even got a Membership Card
and e-mailed a copy to her.
She
immediately telephoned me and yelled,
"Good
grief, Mom, where are your glasses?! This is a Membership to
a Prostitute Club, not a Parachute
Club.”
I calmly
replied, "Oh my, I think I'm in
real
trouble then, because I signed up for five
jumps a
week!!”
The line
went quiet and her friend picked up
the phone
and said that my daughter had
fainted.
Life as a
Senior Citizen is not getting any
easier, but sometimes it can be real
fun.
Just
because you're "Young" doesn't
mean
that you
can outsmart an "old
Geezer"
Remember:
Don't make old people mad. We don't
like
being old
in the first place, so it doesn't
take much to tick us off.

August 2017 Lunch Menu
Hi! Happy Summer... The sunshine has been beautiful!
Below is a copy of the Rainier Senior Center lunch menu for August 2017.
Remember we have 50 pair of eclipse glasses so we can safely watch the eclipse on August 21st during BINGO. These will be given out on a "first come, first serve" basis.
We're also having our clothing drive for the Olympia Union Gospel Mission on that day. Remember to bring in gently used clothing, shoes and coats you no longer want or need.
We'll need volunteers to man the booth during the Bluegrass Festival August 25th & 26th. If you have any nice items you'd like to donate
to the raffle, contact Rosemary.
Thank you,
Linda & George Johnson

USPS Food Drive 2017
Monday, the Rainier Senior Center received a call from the local Post Office asking George (who regularly picks up and delivers food to the food bank) to pick up the food donated by local citizens. Although we were all just getting ready to play BINGO, he ran to the Post Office and picked up the food. Since it was raining, we all pitched in and quickly unloaded the truck and took the food inside. Even with all the helping hands, we were still late starting BINGO.
George had to move something else out of the Senior Center Monday and was working at the Tumwater Farmers Market on Wednesday. The people at the Senior Center took the food to the Food Bank Wednesday after lunch. WOW!
A very special "THANK YOU" goes out to everyone who donated food to the USPS Food Drive! The food collection was shared with many hungry people in Rainier. Many people benefited from your generous donations.

Rainier Senior Center Rummage Sale 2017
A Special "Thank You" goes out to everyone who donated to the Rainier Senior Center Rummage Sale. We really appreciate everyone who took time out to help with the sale, whether you helped set-up the sale, worked at the sale, priced items, or helped pack-up and clean the center. We appreciate each and every one of you. Your time, patience and teamwork made this the greatest sale ever!
Even though we were very busy at the Rainier Senior Center Rummage Sale, we had a lot of stuff left over. We extended our sale to go through Sunday afternoon, with $2.00 bags for clothing and 1/2 price for all other items.
We had 3 truck loads of stuff left over that went to a non-profit thrift store in Yelm. The clothing and bedding that was left over was promptly picked up by two ladies from the Olympia Union Gospel Mission.
The racks at the Union Gospel Mission were almost empty, before they received our donation. There are many people in need of warm clothing, so their cupboards were bare.
