New Sign for the Senior Center of Rainier

Several people requested a new sign for the Senior Center.  We looked into having one made by a local company, but simply couldn't afford it, so I designed one on Canva. This is the program I use to make our lunch menus.

I researched companies that print signs for a couple of weeks.  I found a great place to work with called SquareSigns: https://www.squaresigns.com/  They make aluminum signs with UV protection and would put a reflective coating on the sign.  It cost more that a corrugated plastic sign, yet it will last us for decades.  Once I got approval from our Board of Directors I ordered the signs.

The signs arrived on Monday.  We unpacked them and sent the picture below to Kevin Pettit.

Kevin called us Tuesday.  He was ready to replace our signs.  We met him and his wife, Diane at the Senior Center.  Then we went across the street and helped install the new signs.

George and I went to Jerry's Color store in Yelm and he picked out the paint for the signs.
First we prepped, taped and primed the sign on both sides.

Then we went back to the Senior Center while the primer dried for a couple of hours.
Once we were done with our meeting at the Senior Center, we painted the frame dark green.
This is the color that George picked out.  I think it looks great!

After the paint dried we pulled the painter's tape off of the sign.

This sign should last the Senior Center many years.  We still need to dig around one of the posts and secure it with the foam stuff for posts, and install the solar lights on top.

Thank you to everyone who helped us with the new signs!

Senior Center Donation Letter for 2022

PO Box 67

Rainier, WA 98576

(360) 446-2258

December 1, 2022

Hi, I am writing on behalf of the Senior Center of Rainier.  Our Senior Center is completely run by an all-volunteer staff.   We became a 501(c)3 organization (#91-0973941) in 1977, so your donation is tax deductible.  In October 2020 we became listed as a charity with the Washington State Combined Fund Drive (#2004355).  Your donation will help us continue to provide healthy meals in a caring, pleasant, social atmosphere.  We receive small donations from the  Amazon Smile program when you place your order through our Smile link at: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/91-0973941

Please do your part to help the Senior Center of Rainier this Christmas, as we are 100% self-funded.  Your donation will help feed senior citizens on low and fixed incomes. We provide nourishing, well balanced, home-cooked meals without the support from government agencies.  We serve an average of 35 - 45 lunches on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Many seniors say these are the only hot meals they receive during the week.  Lunch is served on Mondays & Wednesdays at noon. (Beverage, soup &/or salad, main meal, and dessert.)  We serve special holiday meals as many seniors would spend their holidays alone.

Our center is used by many community groups including:  AA, STEDI meetings, civic meetings, community activities, BINGO, Lending Library, Mini-Food Bank, We Love Rainier WA activities, as well as memorials and birthday parties.

Thank you for helping us help others.  We appreciate your donation.  Your donation will help us take care of our seniors and put smiles on their faces.  Every donation helps to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.

Sincerely,

Linda J. Johnson

Update on the Dining Room Floor & Heat Respite Next Week

 Dear Seniors and Friends,

The good news is that the floor has been cleaned, prepped and painted.  It looks nice.  The bathrooms have been painted, too.  They look good, also.  Kevin Pettit did most of the painting.  Kevin, Chris, Steve & Michael helped move everything out of the dining room and put everything back together again.  It looks clean and is quite a transformation.

The newly painted floor is lighter than it was before.  You'll see the difference at the end of the pictures.

We received a phone call from Thurston County Emergency Management, letting us know it''s supposed to be very hot next week.  I let her know that we planned on being closed for lunch next week, while the smell of the paint dissipated, but since it's supposed to be in the 90's, so we will be open as a heating and cooling shelter.  If you need shelter from the heat, please call me at (360) 292-5364 or George at (360) 292-5363.  We will come down and open the Senior Center to give you relief from the heat.

I'm not sure what we'll serve for food and beverages.  You're welcome to bring something to eat or share with other members.  We'll manage one way or the other.
