Later on, Mary Gumbo will be at the Senior Center to talk to us about healthcare at 1:00 PM.  She will arrive early, if anyone has healthcare questions they'd like to discuss with her privately.

Wednesday at 1:30 PM is the We Love Rainier WA meeting in the Senior Center dining room.  Please bring your thoughts and ideas for things you'd like to see happen in Rainier!

Next week, (Fourth Monday) will be our monthly Board Meeting.  It will be held in the dining room starting at 1:00 PM.

This coming Wednesday we'll have a "We Love Rainier WA" meeting at the Senior Center.

Coffee with a Cop will be the following Wednesday at 1:00 PM in the Senior Center.

A lot is happening at the Senior Center.  The Fire Inspector (Mark), Tom Arnbrister, Mike Oravits, George and I met yesterday at the Senior Center to go over any changes, updates we need to make as an Emergency Shelter.  Per the recommendations, Tom is making arrangements to have our older fire extinguishers recharged.  (We have 2 new extinguishers, purchased at Costco last month)

Mark recommends a few updated to the Senior Center.  Smoke & CO2 detectors, recharge fire extinguishers and new Exit signs with battery back up emergency lights.  The Smoke and CO2 detectors and emergency exit signs have been ordered.  We will make arrangements to have the Exit signs installed.

George and I are retiring from Public Service as of May 31, 2022.  Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you all over these last few years.  We have a great volunteer staff who'll be taking over the Senior Center.  We'll still be in for lunch and visit with everyone!  The people at the Senior Center of Rainier will always hold a special place in our hearts!  Thank you again!

Congratulations to George Sharp!

George Johnson presented George Sharp with a Certificate of Appreciation at the monthly STEDI (South Thurston Economic Development Initiative) Meeting, Friday, November 19, 2021, for his help and inspiration here in Rainier, WA.  "We Love Rainier WA" is his creation.  He's helped us get it off the ground - and it hit the road running!

George Sharp has been the driving force behind many of the successful projects in Rainier WA.  He has supported & encouraged the Senior Center of Rainier, as well as the City of Rainier to write for grants to help fund major projects here.  I know that the Senior Center of Rainier and the Rainier Emergency Food Center received funds that helped us survive the pandemic lockdown.  We wouldn't have made it through these lockdowns without his guidance.  THANK YOU, GEORGE!

George identified resources for Rainier:

  • Senior Center of Rainier grants:  $17,500
  • Rainier Emergency Food center:  $12,500
  • City of Rainier:  $30,000 in 2020, $319,000 in 2021 & $319,000 2022
  • Thurston Strong Grants $860,000 Rural Areas & $90,000 Rainier Businesses

George brings people and groups together.  They build their own teams to get things done in South Puget Sound.  He's behind the economic development of many small communities in our area:  Bucoda, Rainier, Tenino, Rochester, Grand Mound & Yelm.

For your leadership, service and contributions to

“We Love Rainier WA”,

Senior Center of Rainier

and the people of the City of Rainier.

Your dedication and guidance has helped

make our community a huge success.

You are our “Difference Maker”.

George Sharp has really made a huge difference in Rainier!

Thank you, George!

Rainier Easter Egg Hunt 2021

The Rainier Easter Bunny in action!

Easter came early to Rainier when the Easter Bunny (EB) & friends hid about 2,000 Easter Eggs for the kids to find in Wilkowski Park Saturday.  Parents and kids came early to see the Easter Bunny.  EB entertained people of all ages.

Parents and grandparents smiled as children looked for eggs.  The eggs were filled with treats.  Candy, trinkets and prizes.  Glenda's Espresso Stand, Main Streeet Cookie Store and Sonja's Cafe gift almost 100 certificates for the kids. Other businesses and private citizens donated dozens of gifts for children.  The certificates for businesses and gifts were hidden in the eggs.

The kids were organized by age group into four different group:  3 & under, 4-7, 8-10, 11 & up.
Once the kids were lined up and ready to go, Everyone patiently waited until George Johnson got on the "We Love Rainier WA" megaphone and let them know the hunt was on.

Parents & grandparents smiled as kids hunted for eggs.  Everyone was smiling.  Not one person complained about anything!

                      Oh, no!   Easter Bunny DOWN!

Our Easter Bunny is plum tuckered out.

Our Easter Bunny is still napping...

                          The Easter Bunny wakes up!

                           George Johnson & Arnold Tiffany.

                        My Easter Bunny:  George Johnson

A special "Thank You" to everyone who donated gifts & eggs for the Easter Egg Hunt this year.  We also want to thank all of the people from the Senior Center of Rainier & We Love Rainier WA for their help filling the Easter Eggs!  It took days and days to fill all of those eggs.  Some eggs were easier to close than others.

Rachel Stephenson, Tiffany Crop, Bill & Kathy Willette, Arnold Tiffany, George & Linda Johnson, Terri & Bill Rendahl, Dawn, Amber, Matthew & John Kenney, Mike Emmons and many others helped put the Rainier Easter Egg Hunt together for the kids.

Thank you to Kevin & Diane Pettit for moving the Rainier Saturday Market outdoors.  We appreciate all of the vendors who joined in our Easter Celebration this year.

Finally, "Thank you" to everyone who joined in our Easter Egg Hunt Saturday.  Shhh...the  adults were smiling as much as the kids!
