Yelm Amateur Radio Group

 Anyone interested in learning to become an amateur HAM Radio operator is welcome to attend the Yelm Amateur Radio Operator meetings on the first and third Saturdays, at Valley Heart Church, in Rainier.  Please contact the members below if you are interested in joining YARG.  Members range in age from just over 12 years of age to over 80 years of age.

THE SMOKE FROM WILDFIRES IN WASHINGTON AND BRITISH COLUMBIA HAS ARRIVED. AIR QUALITY THIS MORNING ACROSS WESTERN WASHINGTON HAS REACHED LOCALLY UNHEALTHY LEVELS. Don't Mess with Old Folk

Alice, one of our members at the Rainier Senior Center, brought in this funny article and shared it with some of us yesterday.  She sent it to me, so I could post it on our blog to share with anyone who missed it yesterday.  I laughed so hard I cried.  Thank you, Alice!

Yesterday my daughter e-mailed me again,

asking why I didn't do something useful with my

time.

“Like, me sitting around the pool and

drinking wine is not a good thing?” I

asked.

My "doing-something-useful" seems to be her

favorite topic of conversation.

She was "only thinking of me", she said and

suggested that I go down to the Senior Center and join

something.

I did this and when I got home last night, I

decided to play a prank on her.

I e-mailed her and told her that I had

joined a Parachute Club.

She replied, "Mother, are you nuts? You are

78 years old and now you're going to start jumping out of

airplanes?”

I told her that I even got a Membership Card

and e-mailed a copy to her.

She immediately telephoned me and yelled,

"Good grief, Mom, where are your glasses?! This is a Membership to

a Prostitute Club, not a Parachute

Club.”

I calmly replied, "Oh my, I think I'm in

real trouble then, because I signed up for five jumps a

week!!”

The line went quiet and her friend picked up

the phone and said that my daughter had

fainted.

Life as a Senior Citizen is not getting any

easier, but sometimes it can be real fun.

Just because you're "Young" doesn't

mean

that you can outsmart an "old

Geezer"

Remember:

Don't make old people mad. We don't like

being old in the first place, so it doesn't

take much to tick us off.

REFC Donations ONLY Yard Sale!!!

REFC is having a yard/garage sale.  They are having a Yard/Garage Sale on August 4th and 5th from 10 AM - 4 PM.  Unlike most sales, there are no prices on their items.  It's a "Donation Only" event.  Take what you need.  Donate what you can afford.

August 2017 Lunch Menu

Hi!  Happy Summer...  The sunshine has been beautiful!

Below is a copy of the Rainier Senior Center lunch menu for August 2017.

Remember we have 50 pair of eclipse glasses so we can safely watch the eclipse on August 21st during BINGO.  These will be given out on a "first come, first serve" basis.

We're also having our clothing drive for the Olympia Union Gospel Mission on that day.  Remember to bring in gently used clothing, shoes and coats you no longer want or need.

We'll need volunteers to man the booth during the Bluegrass Festival August 25th & 26th.  If you have any nice items you'd like to donate

to the raffle, contact Rosemary.
